All the Educators, the rest of the staff, and I are delighted to be able to welcome everyone back to school after the extended June school holiday. We are relieved to be feeling a sense of normalcy and routine. I have a positive feeling that we have turned the corner with the impact of Covid on the Education Sector of South Africa and that the situation will get better now. We are fortunate that our Minister of Education Angie Motsheka has ensured that all systems are in place for us to be safely back at school. The push for all Educators to be vaccinated has also been an enormously positive and constructive step in the right direction. The Bryanston Grade 0 Educators and staff have been vaccinated.
We are continuing to take the utmost care in following all Covid protocols in the school environment and are doing all we can to protect ourselves and others in our school community. The Educators have observed that the Covid rules as far as the children are concerned have now become habits and that they seldom have to be reminded to wear their masks, social distance, or sanitise. Well done to all the children!! Please check that your child’s mask fits properly and correctly covers their nose and mouth. Please also ensure that they have a spare mask in their bags at all times. Let’s keep each other safe.
The past few weeks have been difficult for some within our school community and as a country. Our condolences to parents that may have lost family or friends.
Some children have enjoyed being off school, while most have struggled with restrictions that are keeping them at home and away from their friends. No matter how aware parents are of what is discussed in the presence of their child, young children are very perceptive to the different nuances around Covid and the continual talk about the numbers going up and down, etc. They are thus aware of some phenomenon taking place. Educators are thus making a concerted and direct effort to support the children’s mental health during the current world pandemic. They are consciously making a special connection daily and individually with every child in their class directly and positively. This is achieved by showing them with simple gestures, a smile just for them like an air hug or a pat on the head praise for achievements, showing them just how much they are valued by their teacher. Mental health is the way children think and feel about themselves and the world around them. It affects how children cope with life’s challenges and stresses. Although they might appear fine, we have picked up some fear in the children and are formulating ways to help them through imaginative and role play, stories, etc. We pledge to continue assisting our BOFS children in developing sound values, skills, and attitudes as an integral part of the balanced, education that we offer.
With the abrupt notice of closure of the schools’ last term, we were unable to print reports for the Parents. Fortunately, the Educators had completed the reports and we were able to email you a copy for your reference during the Zoom parent Feedback sessions. The Parents will now receive hard copies of the children’s reports.
The school has several exciting activities planned for the 3rd Term and we are looking forward to a fun and educational term. Please also take a look at the website as we are unable to put all the information in the weekly Newsletter.
Thank you to all our parents for their continual support, enthusiasm, and understanding in these challenging times. You are FANTASTIC!!
